Katrina Kaif praises Mani Ratnam's film;  expresses a desire to work in Southern films

Director Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1 has once again proven that content is the new king of the Indian film industry and the new mantra for success. The film, which stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi among other stalwarts, has come close to the Rs 475 crore mark worldwide. While Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and other superstars have wished to work in southern films and have done so before, Katrina Kaif has now joined the movement to star in South Indian films.

Katrina is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming horror-comedy film Phone Bhoot. During her recent media interaction, the actress expressed her desire to work in southern films if someone comes up with a good script with a strong character to play on screen. “If ever there is a sufficiently compelling script with a strong character, language will not be a barrier for me. We have phenomenal directors working in South India,” she told IANS .

She then praised Mani Ratnam director Ponniyin Selvan. “The best and most recent example is Mani Ratnam sir’s Ponniyin Selvan: 1. Such an amazing film, isn’t it? Such grandeur, beautiful frames and music. Making a film at such great scale at this point in his life, it proves the courage of an iconic director,” she said.

Many may not know that Katrina has worked in a few southern films such as the 2004 Telugu release Malliswari and 2005 Allari Pidugu followed by the Malayalam film Balram vs. Tharadas.

Work-wise, Katrina will next be seen in her upcoming film Phone Bhoot, which also stars Ishaan Khatter and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She plays a ghost in the film, which was directed by famous director from Mirzapur, Gurmeet Singh. She also has Tiger 3 with Salman Khan and Jee Le Zaara alongside Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra.
